Epic XVIII
“II”

Chops, picks, sticks and ivories, watch out world, Epic XVIII is back with their newest skankin’ album “II”! The band has traveled far and wide, learning only the best horn licks, the finest walking bass, and the perfected up-stroke, all to bring you-- our excited fan-base-- another cover-to-cover banger of an album.

Leaving it up to the listeners to pigeonhole the genre of this album, Epic XVIII put together another eclectic, toe-tapping, 11-song album that is sure to have people of all ages and all backgrounds on their feet and dancing. Ranging from punk, to Latin rock, and of course, ska, the band pulled all of their creative strings together to weave another masterful and EPIC album.

For our tried-and-true Rock/Ska lovers, we made sure to pack this album with that nostalgic 90’s ska feeling, so don’t put away those Doc Marten’s just yet! “Truth” is an up-beat bouncer of a song, brought to the band by our guitarist Austin Chavarin, that gets audiences dancing while asking them to look at the good time they’re having and simply being satisfied.

And just when you think you’ve gotten settled, Epic XVIII kicks it into high gear with the fast-paced and mercurial track “Going.” This song will get your blood pumping, your legs moving, and your fist jumping as you jam to that banging horn-line, not to mention el grito de Klandestino!

Next up is the inspiring and encouraging “Pass it.” Collaboratively written by lead singer and baritone saxophonist, Adam Marquez, and Austin Chavarin, “Pass it” is definitely a clapper of a song that makes you feel like you can take on anything (and still have time to dance around afterwards).

“Make it Right” is the band’s newest single, bringing that staple up-beat ska while lead vocalist, Adam Marquez, reminds us that “It’s your attitude, so make it right!” Written as a guideline for Marquez’s kids, “Make it Right” will catch you in the feels then pick you right up to keep on skankin’!

Not heavy enough for you? We got you. “Fight on!” is the band’s follow-up song after defeating our flat-footed arch nemesis Divides by Zero.  Fast, in your face, and unapologetic (unless we step on your toes in the pit), “Fight on!” is the band’s answer to the request “we need more punk music.”

And now, “Now.” “Now” is our rollercoaster song that takes you in from one place and leaves you in another. Join us in the “Here and now,” but wait, “Now” isn’t what you thought it would be when it slows down into a nice steady reggae beat.

Keeping it slow, “Woke” is the band’s shot at a rocksteady/reggae vibe with the overall message being that we’re missing the valuable lessons we learn as children as a result of growing up too fast.

Bringing in a worldly sound, the band dips their toes into some Latin Rock with our homage to the great, “Tio Alejandro.” Sing along with us as we belt the chorus while Adam sings in his finest Spanish.

Next is our trumpet player, Logan Alvarado’s, Yiddish diddy “Patch en Tukhus” which will have you yelling “Oy Vey!” by the end of this up-tempo, jump-around of a song.

Rounding off the album is one of our more narrative songs. “J. Gatz” is the result of having an English major in the band, with lyrics provided by keyboardist Eli Moreno-Drew. As the title suggests, this song transports you to one of the Great Gatsby’s infamous afterparties, bootleg booze and all.

Last—but absolutely not least—“Life” is our ode to our favorite racing game growing up that we all know and love (but cannot mention for marketing purposes). Side effects of this song include overwhelming nostalgia, general gaiety, and the unstoppable urge to dance around.

Thus ends “II.” This album was written over the course of about three months and was all developed, fine-tuned, and recorded in-house. It was a collaborative effort on all member’s parts, each bringing their unique sound and experiences to the table. Our hope is that you have as much fun listening to this album as we did creating it.
